This landscaping project in Macclesfield was completed in October 2012. The client had very little in the way of outdoor space, although the garden was spacious there was no patio area in which to entertain or relax. After a site consultation a final design was agreed on. The client was keen to embrace modern design ideas, whilst paing homage to the 1920s period of the house. Clean lines, and colour were cricical, with a garden lighting system to provide further atmosphere and effect after dark. Despite limited access we were able to clear and level the garden using a one tonne machine. However all the waste naterials and soil were removed by hand and wheel barrow, all 80 tonnes of it! On levelling the garden, a new retaining wall was constructed, the retainig wall was built 1300mm high by 400mm deep in order to shore the ground behind it. The wall was then back filled using a 10mm drainage aggregate. Plastic K-Bead was attached to the wall in anticipation of the K-Rend silicone render. The patio area was constructed using Marshalls Indian Sandstone Fossil Buff. The patio kits provide four sizes of flag stone, and the wonderful lines of colour running through the paving stone create a bright and interesting patio surface. This neatly contrasted the new white renderred garden walls, the curved wall matches the sweeping archs of the house, paying homage to the 1920s design style. This soft curve also creates a wonderful rasied planting area close to the house. The old concrete prefabricated garage was given new life by constructing a new feature wall. We used a good quality decking board in order to mask the side of the garage. This was then painted black using a Ronseal external wood stain. By installing two large Indian Sandstone flags into the wall we created a bespoke feature wall, with the bold black creating a wonderful contrast against the white renderred walls. A remote control garden lighting system was installed to provide further interest and atmosphere after dark. The inclusion of a monolith stone water feature adds an acoustic element to the garden area, with the soothing sound of running water flowing over the surface of the locally sourced kerridge quarry stone. The new Indian Sandstone patio area was completed by Home Ground in 18days with a total build cost of £14500.
